Show Notes
This week, my good friend David Muise joins us from Grand Lake, Nova Scotia, to share music and true Christmas stories from the East Coast, contributed by friends and fellow artists Mel Farrimond and Louise Brooking-McDow.
As always, I had a lot of fun during my conversation with David – and I hope it helps bring you a bit of joy too!
I would also like to extend a special thank you to Mel Farrimond and Louise Brooking-McDow. Your stories were beautiful, and your songs were lovely.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays – and to all a good night!
This Week’s Guest(s):
David Muise
David Muise is a singer-songwriter originally from New Waterford, Cape Breton. In his younger formidable years, he followed his father, Yogi, as he performed with the Men of the Deeps. These experiences and other musical influences, such as those of Harry Chapin, John Prine, and James Taylor, solidified David’s passion for writing and performing storytelling songs.
His debut album, “The Journey,” was released in 2007. Since then, David has spent his time playing at various charity events, Jamborees, and songwriters’ circles, including a set on the Stan Fest stage. His most recent works include the release of a full-length CD with his musical partner Louise Brooking titled “Catch the Wind.” Other musical interests include performing in Pipe and Drum bands. David is a former member of the Pipes and Drums of Clan Farquharson and was a member of the Colchester Legion Pipes and Drums during their tour in Holland for the 65th Anniversary of the Liberation of that country from WWII.
David lives in Grand Lake with his wife Marian, daughter Winter, and three border collies Doc, Dublin and Kayla.
Louise Brooking-McDow
Louise Brooking-McDow, born and raised in Newfoundland, developed a passion for music at age 10 with piano lessons and later picked up the guitar in her teens. In her 30s, she became a singer-songwriter and now teaches piano, guitar, and ukulele. Alongside her musical talents, Louise is a skilled illustrator and watercolour artist, having illustrated David Muise’s children’s book, “Archie the Pit Rat Hero.” She resides in Grand Lake, NS, with her husband Frank, their two daughters, and pets. Louise latest endeavour includes writing about her community’s history and sharing stories in her captivating storyteller style.
Mel Farrimond
Mel Farrimond, originally from Scotland and now living in Nova Scotia, Canada, released her first EP, *Melancholy*, in 2008, followed by the full-length album *Through the Darkness* in 2011. She has performed at notable events, including Stanfest, where her song “Moon Song” won a video contest for a main stage spot, and the Go-Girls showcase at the Folk Alliance in Memphis.
Mel has also produced and hosted the beloved songwriters’ showcase *Bluebird North* in Halifax for the Songwriters’ Association of Canada. Mel has also produced and hosted the popular songwriters’ showcase ‘Bluebird North’ in Halifax for the Songwriters’ Association of Canada.
